What's at stake
Shobu Ippon is the fighting format that came before the points-based kumite of today's competitions. A bout ends as soon as a karateka scores one ippon or two waza-ari, with a punch (tsuki) or a kick (geri). Referees assess accuracy, controlled power, distance, timing and zanshin, the awareness kept after the technique. The French Karate Federation (FFK) runs it as an individual French Cup open to licensed cadets, juniors and seniors, men and women.
Schedule
Bouts start at 9:45 am and the event is expected to finish around 8:30 pm.
- Male cadets: check-in and weigh-in from 8:30 to 9:30 am, at -52, -57, -63, -70 and +70 kg. - Female cadets: check-in and weigh-in from 8:30 to 9:30 am, at -47, -54, -61 and +61 kg. - Juniors (open weight): check-in from 10 to 11 am. - Seniors (open weight): check-in from 11 am to noon.
Athletes may not compete up an age group. Entries closed on 25 October and no on-site entries are accepted.
