UFC Vegas 124: Walker stops Cortes-Acosta, Suarez beats Jandiroba

Johnny Walker ended the fight in round 3 on Saturday 7 November in Las Vegas and is set to enter the heavyweight top 10. Tatiana Suarez outworked Virna Jandiroba on the cards and is looking at a strawweight title shot.

Johnny Walker made it two wins from two fights at heavyweight. On Saturday 7 November at the APEX in Las Vegas, the Brazilian stopped Dominican Waldo Cortes-Acosta at 2:27 of round 3 in the main event of UFC Vegas 124. The promotion named the bout Fight of the Night.

A head kick turned it around

Walker, a former light-heavyweight who moved up in October after knocking out Mick Parkin at UFC 332, started by attacking the legs. Cortes-Acosta walked forward without giving ground and seemed to take control in round 2. According to VAVEL's statistics, the Dominican had landed 68 strikes to 51 and controlled more than four minutes on the ground. In round 3, a Walker head kick caught Cortes-Acosta and the Brazilian followed up until the referee stepped in. Having taken the fight on short notice, he should move into the division's top 10. Cortes-Acosta drops a third straight fight, after losses to Alexander Volkov and Curtis Blaydes.

Suarez heads towards a title fight

In the co-main event, Tatiana Suarez beat Brazil's Virna Jandiroba by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at strawweight. The American spent more than nine minutes in top control, according to VAVEL, and attempted eight takedowns. Jandiroba fended off the early attempts and went for a kneebar late in round 2, too late to matter. Suarez has won three in a row since her title loss to Zhang Weili in early 2025 and could face champion Mackenzie Dern next.

The rest of the card

Elijah Smith knocked out Davey Grant one minute into round 1, his ninth straight win, in the final fight of his contract. Lucas Fernando beat Billy Elekana on points (29-28 on all three cards) at light-heavyweight for a fifth consecutive win. Nina Milošević stopped Priscila Cachoeira in round 2 (3:40), and Mitch Raposo ended Marcos Degli's 13-fight winning run on the Argentine's UFC debut, by unanimous decision.

On the prelims, Thomas Petersen came back to stop Gabriel Lorenço in round 3 after being rocked in the first, and José Souza knocked out Jonny Parsons with a right uppercut at 4:16 of round 1. Performance bonuses went to Smith and Petersen. No French fighter was on the card. The UFC returns on Saturday 14 November with UFC 334 at Madison Square Garden in New York, where Ciryl Gane defends the heavyweight title against Josh Hokit.
