PFL Chicago: Oualy Tandia wins on debut, Jena Bishop crowned

France's Oualy Tandia beat J.P. Saint Louis on points (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) in his first PFL fight, in Chicago. In the main event, Jena Bishop avenged her loss to Liz Carmouche and became the PFL's first women's flyweight champion.

Oualy Tandia made a winning start in the PFL. On Friday 16 October at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, the 24-year-old Frenchman beat American J.P. Saint Louis by unanimous decision, 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28. He remains unbeaten as a professional at six wins from six fights.

The bout was contested at a 173 lb catchweight rather than at welterweight, after Saint Louis missed weight by 1.8 lb and forfeited part of his purse to Tandia. On Sherdog's scoring, the Frenchman took the first round with his height (1.91 m) and clean strikes at range. Saint Louis won the second by taking him down and landing elbows from top position. Tandia regained control in the third with several takedowns and ground strikes in the final minute. Saint Louis, cut in several places, drops to 12 wins and 6 losses.

From Les Tarterêts to the PFL

Raised in the Les Tarterêts estate in Corbeil-Essonnes, south of Paris, Tandia came through the amateur ranks at Team Zodiac 91. He won two French amateur MMA titles and a bronze medal at the amateur world championships, according to La Clé publique. He turned professional in January 2025 and won the Hexagone MMA welterweight belt on 29 May 2026 in Bordeaux, stopping Romain Debienne in the third round.

Bishop gets her revenge

In the main event, American Jena Bishop won the first women's flyweight title in PFL history. She beat Liz Carmouche by unanimous decision (48-47 on all three cards), after Carmouche had stopped her in the third round of the 2025 tournament final in August. The former Bellator champion started better: in the first round Carmouche dropped Bishop and followed up on the ground, a 10-8 round on Sherdog's card. Bishop then took over with her wrestling, controlled Carmouche on the mat and came close to a rear-naked choke twice in the fifth round. She moves to 12 wins and 3 losses, while Carmouche is now 26-9.

In the co-main event, Russia's Timur Khizriev stayed unbeaten (19-0) despite being dropped twice in the second round by Brazil's Gabriel Braga, winning a split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28). At bantamweight, Sarvarjon Khamidov knocked out Rafael do Nascimento at 1:49 of the first round with a left hook and hammerfists on the ground.
