Tyson (docuseries)

Floyd Russ · 263 min

Synopsis

Across four episodes, Mike Tyson tells his own story: a Brooklyn childhood, the meeting with trainer Cus D'Amato, the world heavyweight title at 20, then the fall and years of controversy. Archive fight footage and interviews with the champion.

Why watch it

Released on Netflix on 13 October 2026, the docuseries TYSON is the first major production about Mike Tyson since James Toback's 2008 film. Four episodes of roughly an hour each, titled Power, Greed, Trust and Human, follow his career in order: the schooling under Cus D'Amato in the Catskills, the rapid rise that made him the youngest heavyweight world champion in history in 1986, then the years when fame and money took over from boxing.

What a boxing fan will get out of it

The raw material is the fight archive, cut to show what made the difference in the ring: the peek-a-boo style taught by D'Amato, the head movement, the short combinations to the body then the head, and the punching power behind so many early-round knockouts. Director Floyd Russ, who made the Malice at the Palace film in the Untold series, puts Tyson in front of the camera and lets him talk in the blunt register he uses today.

The series does not hide the darker chapters of the boxer's life, which take up much of the last two episodes, but it handles them through his own eyes. Several reviewers, including the specialist site What's on Netflix, feel it stays on the surface and plays more like an authorised portrait than an investigation. If you want to understand the fighter, the first two episodes are the richest.

Where to watch

TYSON is only on Netflix, with original audio and subtitles or dubbed, in every country where the platform operates. It is rated 16+. Netflix has also announced a filmed version of Mike Tyson's one-man stage show, Mike Tyson: Return of the Mike, for 3 November 2026. The series lands two years after the Tyson vs Jake Paul fight, streamed by Netflix in November 2024, which revived public curiosity about the former champion.
