The Greatest

The Greatest is the first scripted drama authorised by Muhammad Ali's family. His widow, Lonnie Ali, is an executive producer alongside Michael B. Jordan's Outlier Society. Creator and showrunner Ben Watkins has built a first season of eight episodes, all released at once on 4 November 2026 on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.

Four defining years

The season does not cover Ali's whole life. It opens in 1960, when 18-year-old Cassius Clay wins Olympic light-heavyweight gold in Rome, and closes in 1964, the year he takes the heavyweight title from Sonny Liston in Miami Beach and announces his new name. These are the years the fighter was built: the move to the professional ranks, the arrival at Miami's 5th Street Gym with trainer Angelo Dundee, a style of movement and jab that broke with the heavyweights of the time, and the trash talk that sold every fight.

The series also follows the man outside the ring: his parents, Cassius Clay Sr. and Odessa Clay, his brother Rudy, and his meeting with Malcolm X, a central figure in the years of his conversion.

The cast

Jaalen Best plays Cassius Clay and then Muhammad Ali. Omari Hardwick and Dana Gourrier play his parents, Amin Joseph is Sonny Liston, Michael Ealy is Malcolm X and Giovanni Ribisi is Angelo Dundee. Kai Parham plays Rudy Clay. The official trailer, released by Prime Video on 15 October 2026, shows training and fight scenes shot tight on the gloves.

Who it is for

The series is aimed at viewers who know Ali from his great 1970s fights and want to see where he came from. Boxers will want to watch how the camera handles the footwork and low guard that were his trademark. For the full career, see Muhammad Ali's profile on Sport-Fight.net.
