Synopsis
Duke Kilroy, a former world heavyweight champion, walks out after eight years in prison and returns to London. He wants back the place taken by Kingsley Marshall, a promoter who has become the king of British boxing. Across gyms, fight nights and score-settling, the two men fight for control of a sport where money moves faster than punches.
Why watch it
A boxing drama produced by 50 Cent
Fightland is an eight-episode drama created by Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith, the writers of Save Me, for the US network Starz, with Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson as executive producer. The rapper, already behind Power, brings inside knowledge: he has promoted boxing cards himself. The series premiered in the United States on 31 July 2026, then on Sky Atlantic in the United Kingdom from 27 August. In France it lands on Paramount+ on 15 November 2026.
British boxing from the inside
The action is set in London, in a world British television knows well: East End gyms, promoters, belts negotiated behind closed doors. Howard Charles plays Duke Kilroy, a former heavyweight champion who finds a sport transformed during his time inside. Nicholas Pinnock is Kingsley Marshall, the promoter who built his empire in his absence. Deborah Ayorinde completes the central trio. The first episode is directed by Otto Bathurst, who made the Peaky Blinders pilot, and the series plays as a crime drama in which boxing is as much setting as subject.
What a boxing fan will recognise
The ring scenes show the codes of British professional boxing: weigh-ins, press conferences, dressing rooms, cards with prelims and a main event. The series cares more about the economics of the sport than about technique: who pays, who picks opponents, who keeps the belt. For anyone who follows boxing on either side of the Channel, the promoters recall real figures without naming them.
Reception
Early US reviews, ScreenAnarchy among them, praised the pace of the first episode and the Charles-Pinnock pairing while noting that the revenge plot follows a familiar pattern. Starz presents Fightland as its first wholly owned series, co-produced with Sky. On 15 November it joins a French Paramount+ catalogue still short on boxing dramas, after The Greatest and Tyson.
